BCHS Band Goes to Festival

BCHS Band Goes to Festival

First off, let me explain how festival works. Festival, for symphonic band, is judged by numbers. The numbers that a band can receive are in the range of 1-5. A score of "1" is the highest a band can receive and a score of "5" is the lowest. Each participating band is required to play at least 3 peices which preferably includes a march.

Well, the BCHS Symphonic Band received an overall rating of a 2 for our festival performance and a 3 on our sight reading.

Congrats to the BCHS Band and all who are supporting us!

Epworth

Epworth By the Sea All District Honor Band

Epworth this year will be held where it always is -- on St. Simons Island. The dates are January 31-Februrary 2. You will be excused from school during these days.

Dr. John Culvahouse is the clinician over Epworth. He is nationally renown as a past UGA band director and head of music at Kennesaw State. 15$ was due today, January 15th, and 65$ will be due Wednesday, January 30. We will leave January 31 after school. Meals at Epworth on Friday and Saturday will be covered by the cost. Extra money will be needed for food on Thursday, extra snacks, and to buy a CD of the performance (15$).

Required scales are F Bb Eb and Ab in 2 octaves (if you can) with arpeggios. Tongue them going up the scale and slur them coming down. Chromatic scale is also required from low Bb to high Bb.

Pack your marching uniform as well. Black socks and shoes are also required.  Pack clothes for two days. Blankets, pillows, and other linens are also required. Bring a music stand and EXTRA money. Don't forget your toiletries either.
